I think you're right. If you slide the two red tips together at the top left corner as a limit, then there's one red triangle just below the top left corner, and one blue triangle just above the bottom right corner. Those areas add up to 1/4. But if you then slide M-N down to the base as a limit, the blue triangle disappears and the red triangle has an area of 1/2 the rectangle. Good catch!
